You’re Going To Be Cravin’ Graven, The Spiritual Successor To Hexen
Kicking off Realms Deep 2020 with a bang was a new title called Graven. Created by developer Slipgate Ironworks, Graven claims to be a spiritual successor to Hexen, and in my opinion, Heroes of Might and Magic: Dark Messiah as well. Taking the retro style and giving it the design of a modern game, it looks to be a detailed RPG with wizard combat, environmental puzzles, and open-ended exploration in this dark fantasy world.
Graven has you playing as a currently unnamed ex-priest, banished from his former mystic order. “When a heretical member of the Order sacrifices the Priest’s adoptive daughter, the Priest lethally retaliates in a bout of righteous fury. Tried and found guilty by his brothers and now exiled,” the Priest travels the world in the hopes of gaining redemption.
The Realms Deep demo for Graven begins with the Priest traveling by rowboat through a dark swamp. Arriving in the run-down village, recently plagued by the plague, he takes up the quest of figuring out how best to help the people who are suffering. Of course, it’s also a demo, so whoever was behind the controls was mostly demonstrating the gameplay features. Magic spells, destructible environments, destructible corpses, and more. Everything you’d expect from a 3D Realms game.
GRaven will not be out until sometime in 2020. For more information and to wishlist the game on Steam, click here. You can also watch the full 30 minute video of gameplay by clicking here.
