The Witcher Joins the Mobile ARG Crowd With The Witcher: Monster Slayer
If you’ve ever been playing Pokemon Go and thought “Geez, catching monsters is fun but I’d rather murder them” then it seems like the game for you has been announced. The Witcher: Monster Slayer allows you to travel the real world, find monsters, and slay them.
The general idea isn’t that different from any of the many other ARG mobile games currently on the market, such as The Walking Dead: Our World or Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. You’ll have to actually leave your house (scary!) to explore the world, with your character’s location synced up with your real world location. You can find landmarks around the world, and these landmarks will provide special bonuses for finding them. You can also find monsters, which you will do battle with.
While slaying monsters is the core gameplay loop, The Witcher: Monster Slayer tries to set itself apart from the crowd by having you also participate in story quests along the way. You’ll occasionally be solving mysteries and meeting with people to have conversations. It makes sense after all, the series is based on a little more than just killing things aimlessly. If this is enough to set it apart from the crowd is to be seen, but it certainly seems like a novel addition.
The Witcher: Monster Slayer is set to come out on iOS and Android some time this year. You can sign up for the game here.
