[TGA 2019] New CONTROL Expeditions DLC Releases Today, more coming March 26th
It was a big night for Control at The Game Awards 2019. Nominated for 8 categories, Control took home the prize for Best Art Direction. Good going, Remedy. It’s pretty cool to see the secret Alan Wake sequel getting the love it deserves. Ever since it launched, I’ve been waiting for some DLC to drop. With the SCP themes and a multitude of anomalous artifacts, the game had a lot of room to add new challenges without feeling forced. Well tonight, Control both announced and launched its first bit of DLC. And it’s free!
Called “Expeditions,” the new content will allow players to take on various combat challenges. Completing these challenges will reward the player with new weapon mods and costumes. The new content is accessible from the main game, as soon as you finish the mission “My Brother’s Keeper.” That’s decently far in, so this will definitely be something for seasoned players. Completing the challenges will reward you with new weapon mods and costumes. Expeditions also make use of that mysterious Jukebox, so we finally have an answer to why it has a room all to itself.
But wait, there’s MORE! The trailer (featured above) also hints at the first paid DLC. Titled The Foundation, all we know about it is that it’s got some kind of monster just out of focus in the distance. More information from the Official Press Release:
Expeditions expand Jesse’s story, taking her to new areas of the Threshold, each with its own unique challenges for her to overcome. Players who successfully complete Expeditions will be rewarded with rare mods and powerful crafting materials unique to the mode, as well as a new outfit for Jesse.
Beginning today, players who have completed the main story mission “My Brother’s Keeper” in Control can use the mysterious Jukebox locked away in a room in Central Executive to access Expeditions. By obtaining Jukebox Tokens, players will be able to hear the song that has the power to transport Jesse into a different dimension.
