Samurai Jack is Back In Battle Through Time
If you’re around the same age as me, chances are that Samurai Jack played a significant role in your cardboard swordfights and budding interest in anime. With its creative premise and polished yet minimalistic art style, Samurai Jack still maintains a strong following to this day. When the original show ended without any conclusion (as cartoons of the time often did), fans would routinely beg for a fitting end for their favorite cartoon swordsman. They would wait 15 years. Adult Swim finally delivered Samurai Jack Season 5 in 2017. With a heartbreakingly fitting end for the legendary hero, most assumed this would be the last we saw from the series. Well, surprise surprise, it’s 2020 and we’re getting a Samurai jack game.
From developer Soleil, Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time retells Jack’s epic story. From what we can see in the trailer, the game seems to take place over the entirety of the Samurai Jack run. We see the clean-cut Jack with his traditional garb and sword, and the later bearded Jack with a machine gun. The developer Soleil games are best known for Devil’s Third, which was… well it was certainly a game. Fans should have hope, as the game will be written by Samurai Jack head writer Darrick Bachman.
Honestly, I’m just stoked we’re getting more Samurai Jack. We waited way too long between S4 and S5. While that time-jump allowed Adult Swim to grow, I’m hoping that we’ll see Jack more than once a decade. Hopefully Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time will maintain the adult tone and themes of the later seasons. You can find Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC this Summer.
