Relicta Continues Proud Tradition Of Puzzle Games With Science Gone Mad
I always love finding horror in places you don’t expect it. Everyone expects the same kind of spooky house hide-and-seek simulators nowadays. But who knew when booting up Portal for the first time that it would actually be about a murderous AI ruling over a crypt of dead scientists? It’s easy to make zombies, ghosts, and murderous madmen scary. Making color matching environmental puzzles scary takes some work. So I always keep an eye on new puzzle games to see if they might be the new secret scary that I crave. And judging by the trailer above, Relicta might just fit the bill.
Fair warning, if you don’t watch the trailer with sound, you probably won’t get what I’m talking about. On the surface, Relicta seems to be a pretty standard puzzle game. You change the polarity of some blocks to different colors and use that to move the shapes around until the puzzle is solved. Pretty basic. However, something sinister is lurking beneath the surface. Taking place on Chandra Moon Base, “buried in the eternal darkness of the lunar craters lies a secret that might claim your life… or change humanity forever.” I’m guessing that’s what the giant purple floating crystals in the trailer are all about.
So if you want to try to unravel the mystery of Relicta‘s giant floating purple crystals, you’ll have to wait until sometime later this year when Relicta releases on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia. If you want to learn more, you can find the game’s Steam store page here.
