PROJECT RESISTANCE Once Again Trying To Crack The Multiplayer Horror Nut
Multiplayer horror is notoriously bad. Franchise destoyingly bad. For a time, Dead Space was king. Then a mixture of Phil Collins and a second player tanked one of the defining horror titles of the decade. Even the “good” ones rarely live up to their singleplayer counterparts. You might like Resident Evil 5, but it was no Resident Evil 4. But Left 4 Dead 1&2 made more money than a coke dealer at TIFF (check out our reviews at DreadCentral.com!), so here we are. Newest to the eternal cage fight is Capcom’s Project Resistance. Can it claw the eyes out of the competition and rip open the throats of victory?
As we can see from the trailer, Project Resistance is the working title for a new multiplayer cooperative horror game in the Resident Evil universe. You know what that means. Four characters, mix of melee and ranged, timed objectives, boss monsters, all with a Resident Evil flavor. Now, remember, this isn’t Capcom’s first dance with multiplayer Resident Evil. Not by a long shot. We got Resident Evil 5, 6, and Revelations 2 with their coop campaigns. There was also the action shooter Operation Racoon City. Shit, they were even doing it on the PS2 with Outbreak 1&2. You had to buy a whole network adaptor for that, like a real gamer. And let the world never forget Umbrella Corps, which apparently I was kinder on than the rest of the universe.
So I’m clearly stretching for time now, as we don’t really know anything about Project Resistance aside from that it exists. We will learn more about it at the Tokyo Game Show, which is happening from the 12th-15th. We won’t be there this year, because we launched like last week chill out guys. But as soon as I know more, I’ll let you know. With the recent quality of Resident Evil 7 and the Resident Evil 2 remake, I’m more inclined to put my natural cynicism aside and be excited. But what about all you guys? Stoked for a new Resident Evil game? Or did you also play Umbrella Corps and can never love again? Let me know in the comments!
