Mortal Shell Decides Everyone Should Die, Opens Up Private Beta to Public
Look, it really isn’t fair that only some people get to die horribly. Everyone deserves the chance to throw themselves at absurd bosses and difficult challenges to die a heroic-ish death. Or falling off of cliffs, like I tend to do. Whatever the case, upcoming souls-like Mortal Shell is giving everyone that chance. The beta, which was originally only available to a select few people, is now open to the public.
If you’re interested in getting into the beta, all you have to do is hop over to the Epic Game Store and download it for free. Then you can get yourself killed with the best of them. The beta gives you access to two of the “shells” that your character can possess, and some fighting challenges as well. The developers warn that the game is geared towards those who are quite used to the systems you’d expect from a Souls game, and that you may want to make sure you’re ready for the challenge.
What’s not in the beta is any sort of story, and much of the open world has been blocked off to make sure you keep moving. While those elements are exciting and will be present in the full game, the beta is more to show off the combat elements and the game’s unique shell system, which lets you possess different characters to change your fighting style. Also on display is how cool the game looks, with an art style that should delight. Or terrify if that’s more your thing.
If you enjoy the beta and want to grab the full version of Mortal Shell, the game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One later this year.
