Maid Of Sker Is A Welsh Folklore Inspired Nightmare, Coming Out Later This Month
Wales Interactive announced today that their upcoming survival horror Maid of Sker will be releasing later this month. Originally scheduled for late 2019, then moved to June, the game’s release had been pushed back yet another month. But now it seems that the product is finally being finalized, and will be out soon.
Maid of Sker is heavily influenced by Welsh folklore (if you can imagine that coming from a studio named “Wales”), and based on the R.D. Blackmore novel about Elizabeth Williams. In it, you play as Thomas, a traveling musician who finds himself in a nightmare. A terrifying specter and countless minions haunt the 19th-century hotel in which he is trapped, which Thomas must overcome if he is to save the woman he loves.
Maid of Sker features a “3D sound-based AI system,” with enemies that are completely blind. Everything from the sound of footsteps to your breathing can mean the difference between life and death. However, as seen in the trailer, there is a steampunk-y orb that can send out a sonic wave that briefly stuns enemies.
On top of the upcoming release, Wales Interactive also announced a new limited-edition Maid of Sker vinyl soundtrack. There is no price listed yet, but you can sign up for the vinyl by clicking the link here, and signing up for the newsletter.
Maid of Sker will be available on July 28th for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. A Switch version is in the works, but there is no release date for it yet. For more information, you can check out the official website by clicking here.

The PS5 is out at the end of this month?! Massive news!
I guess I’ll play this on Steam, it does sound unique – you don’t come across too many Welsh folklore-inspired horror games. Hoping the enemies don’t have Valley accents though, that might ruin the effect.
