Hellbound is Bound For Release This August
It’s a real good time to be into retro FPSes. The genre has basically exploded, and the reason may be tied to the awesome success of Dusk, which you can read our recent review of. However, there’s always room for more. Another entry to the genre is coming out soon. Hellbound, the game in which you are bound for Hell, will be launching on August 4th.
Made specifically to be a throwback, Hellbound is an FPS inspired by 90’s classics. It even specifically notes Doom, Quake, and Duke Nukem 3D as the games that mean the most to it. You have big guns, there are big demons, and you need to shoot them. How big are the guns? There’s a triple barrel shotgun, what more do you need to know? There’s the promise of there being no options to do anything other than shoot, and sometimes interact with doors.
There’s also almost no story, which seems to be just how Hellbound wants it. After all, the Steam page literally says “Looking for a deep story? You came to the wrong place!” This isn’t that kind of game, you’re here to turn demons into little bloody chunks while bunny hopping over lava. It’s a throwback to a simpler time, and it looks like it manages to achieve that throwback perfectly. If that’s what you want, Hellbound is for you.
The game is launching on PC on August 4th, so you can add it to your Steam wishlist here. You can also try out the free demo to see if it’s your thing.
