DreadOut 2 Sees The Return Of Spooky Ghost Phones February 20th

I always love it when a little game manages to find an audience despite its budget. From the small Indonesian developer Digital Happiness, DreadOut is a game you’d have to squint at to call “good.” It’s marred with the obvious limitations of its budget. The animations are wonky, dialogue lines bizarre, and overall presentation reminiscent of Deadly Premonition, but without actually trying to be. Still, it has an undeniable charm. DreadOut really goes all-in on pure horror, throwing a dizzying array of ghouls at you to consistently be spooked by. It’s also makes good use of the core phone mechanic, working as a weapon, flashlight, puzzle solver, and menu all in one. It’s just got so much heart. You can’t help rooting for it.

Fans have been waiting six years for a full sequel, with the standalone DreadOut: Keepers of the Dark serving as a nice snack in the meantime. Well, turns out all you spooky cell phone fans won’t have to wait much longer. In a trailer dropped by Digital Happiness yesterday, it was revealed that DreadOut 2 would be available on February 20th. That’s in just 9 days!

DreadOut 2 puts you back in the shoes of protagonist Linda, as she once again battles ghosts with her phone. However, DreadOut 2 brings a whole bevy of new mechanics to spice up the gameplay. First and foremost, you get to stab shit. There’s a whole new melee system that lets you stab, slice, beat, and bash the ghouls with all sorts of weapons. That’s in addition to the previous “death by selfie” system. DreadOut 2 also features a non-linear story, allowing you to explore the town and help out various NPCs. These NPCs unlock additional side quests, that will often lead to hidden stages and extra ghosts. And we’re all about them extra ghost.
