NieR Re[in]carnation Trailer Looks Like Ico But With Ghost Robots
Approaching its ten year anniversary, Square Enix has just released a new trailer for the latest title in the NieR saga, NieR Reincarnation. NieR Reincarnation is unique for this series in that it will be on Android and iOS. The gameplay trailer shows very little. A girl, who is presumably a robot with unfathomable strength, followed a cliche looking ghost, which may just be one of the pods from NieR Automata who flew through drying laundry. They are roaming around the ruins of an ancient city, walking on bridges between massive sandstone skyscrapers. The lighting is dreamlike and the music is hauntingly beautiful, as can be expected (and very much appreciated) with games of this series.
Details about NieR Reincarnation are few, leaving us only able to speculate as to if it will take place 10,000 years before, 10,000 years after, or 10,000 years during NieR or NieR Automata. For those who are unfamiliar with the series, NieR takes place in the world of Drakengard, many thousands of years after some sort of salt plague has ravaged humanity. Beyond that, It is basically impossible for me to describe the premise or plot without adding 20,000 more words to the article and I have other stuff I need to do. But trust me when I say it is one of the best video game series to ever be made, and I highly recommend it.
While the NieR Reincarnation trailer is intriguing, there is too little information for us to give a good read about it at this time. We don’t know when and where this fits in the story, we don’t know if it’s a project of the genius Yoko Taro (a creative up there with Hideo Kojima) and we don’t know when it will be released. All we know is that this is a complete mindfuck of a video game series, and the remarkably blase content of the trailer is unlikely to be representative of the final result.
