Wonhon: A Vengeful Spirit Gets Demo, Release Date
Korean horror title Wonhon: A Vengeful Spirit released a demo for its prologue today on Steam. Players take control of a Korean girl as she seeks vengeance against her murderers and family’s killers.
Making a deal with Jeoseung Saja, a God of Death, her restless spirit returns to the material world. Now able to possess mortals, she plots her revenge. She can quickly switch bodies to stealthily approach, or use their abilities and weapons instead. The full release of Wonhon: A Vengeful Spirit is June 8.
The prologue demo, titled Wonhon Beginning, includes the first four levels of the final release. It will showcase what players can expect in terms of stealth and tactics, as well as tease parts of the plot. Set in Korea during the 1920s, the player takes control of a wonhon, or human spirit consumed by grief. A jeoseung Saja (저승사자), literally translating to “The Other World Messenger,” is, while not a perfect match, somewhat analogous to the Grim Reaper in Western mythology. Death appears in folklore, either directly or symbolically, in just about every culture in the world. Jeoseung Saja specifically feature in many Korean myths involving death, whether it be through cheating it or accepting its inevitability.
Wonhon: A Vengeful Spirit features a top-down perspective. The protagonist takes Qi from living creatures, allowing her to temporarily possess their bodies. Wonhon is published by Super.com, an international video game publisher. Busan Sanai Games, a Korean indie studio, developed Wonhon: A Vengeful Spirit. Developer Seungwhan Shin’s other work includes Maruta Escape for iOS and Android devices and released in 2018.
