Oxenfree II: Lost Signals Coming This Year

The sequel to 2016 supernatural thriller Oxenfree is coming later this year, according to the game’s Steam page. Oxenfree II: Lost Signals takes place five years after the events of the first game. Players will take control of Riley, who has returned to her hometown, Camena. She came to investigate strange radio signals, but finds much more than anything she could have imagined. Developed by Night School Studio and published by MWM Interactive, details are sparse, but emerging.

Like its predecessor, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals features a 2D art style with a point-and-click interface. Its connections to the previous game are unclear. Oxenfree used branching dialogue trees to bring Alex and her friends together (or drive them apart). Combined with the mechanic of tuning a radio to communicate with spirits, Oxenfree offered multiple endings depending on choices made. Blending horror with the banality of a teen party on a secluded beach, Alex confronted both metaphorical and very real ghosts of the past. Grappling with the tragedy that struck their friend group, she worked to uncover the secrets of the island’s military base and change her friends’ lives.

The original Oxenfree also garnered several awards. Among their accolades are the Indiecade Official Selection (2015), Independent Games Festival’s Excellence in Visual Art (2016), and various other honorable mentions. It also included talent from Disney alum and a soundtrack provided by Sword & Sworcery’s scntfc. Night School Studio dropped a trailer on their official Twitter account.
