Frostpunk 2 Officially Announced
11 bit studios announced Frostpunk 2 today. The sequel to the bleak survival city-builder is the first of several projects the company has revealed. In celebration, Frostpunk will be free to play on Steam between August 12 and 16. It’s also running a hefty (70%) discount until then, so now is a great time to pick it up.
Frostpunk has achieved great acclaim, including a BAFTA nomination for its harsh, unrelenting gameplay. Frostpunk 2 will be available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, letting players choose their storefront. There is no definite release date set at the time of writing.
The sequel will play much like the original Frostpunk. Players will step into the role of the leader of a metropolis. They need resources to survive, and to support themselves the citizens are in a constant search for sources of energy and power. The frozen, apocalyptic world marches on, however. With supplies of coal beginning to wean, the people place hope in a new potential source of power: oil. They’ll need to explore, conquer, and manage Frostland as humanity’s last hope for survival. Not everyone, however, is happy about the change from coal to oil.
“What players should expect is a wide universe of choices, freedom to shape the society and the city however they see fit – and reap the consequences. Frostpunk 2 builds on the conflicts of its predecessor – survival vs human values, life vs the arctic frost. But most importantly, it adds a new layer that is present in many aspects of the game – be it politics, be it society, be it technological progress – the conflict between humans and their nature.”
Jakub Stokalski, Co-Director for Frostpunk 2
